Perhaps it’s time to clear the air on behalf of all the professional coaches out there. Collectively, we can swear under oath to you that..It’s not about the workout plan. 

“What??”  I have a good plan. I do most of my workouts. Sometimes I hear from my coach. I do my workouts and then I race. It’s pretty good.”

Well, dear athlete.  We want you to TRAIN and not just work out. There is a huge difference. And it’s not about the workout plan you found online or one written months ahead and never adjusted to you personally.  Those are a good start but there is more….

Working out= following a plan, repeating sequences, having fun, and repeating this. You generally feel fit but experience no profound adaptations in your physiology, may plateau, and your regime is not a progression but rather a routine. Nothing wrong with that. But it’s not training… For beginner triathletes this looks like swim, bike,run, rinse, repeat.  For some athletes it works great and for others race day is so exponentially more challenging than their daily regime. 

Training, however, is an intentional progression supported by an athlete- centered relationship, hiring a professional coach, growing wiser and more expansive in your views and knowledge. 

Training Is NOT working out and it’s beyond the plan on paper.
